Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo reportedly rejected a move to Monaco on the summer transfer deadline day.
According to Daily Star, the Red Devils’ boss Louis van Gaal was willing to use the 28-year-old Argentina international as a makeweight in the deal for France forward Anthony Martial, who moved to the Old Trafford for an initial £36 million from the Ligue club.
Another French club Marseille and Spanish side Valencia also reportedly enquired about Rojo’s availability from United. However, he rejected the transfer offers and opted to stay at the Old Trafford.
Van Gaal became frustrated with Rojo over the summer after he failed to join the United squad on time for their pre-season tour of America because of passport issues.
Rojo, who joined United from Primeira Liga club Sporting CP last summer, is yet to play a game for the club this season, as Van Gaal has been using Daley Blind at center-back instead of him.
The Argentine, however, is determined to prove his worth to the Dutchman and is expected to hold talks with him following the international break, which ends next week.
