Galatasaray have turned down Manchester United’s £25million bid for goalkeeper Fernando Muslera, according to reports.
The Red Devils boss Louis Van Gaal was keen to bring in 29-year-old Uruguay international to the Old Trafford as a possible replacement for David De Gea, who is strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer.
It was understood that Turkish would be unable to reject such a considerable offer. However, now Turkish newspaper Fanatik has reported Gala officials are willing to retain their star and informed United chiefs about their decision.
Muslera joined Gala from Serie A side Lazio in 2011 and has since helped the Turkish club win three league titles.
De Gea was left out for United’s opening match of Barclays Premier League 2015-16 against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday when Sergio Romero played for full 90 minutes between the sticks.
Argentina no.1 Romero arrived at the Old Trafford on a free transfer last month as a replacement of no.2 Victor Valdes, whom United have placed on the transfer list this summer after he refused to play in a reserve game last season.
Following the rejection of a bid by Gala, United boss is expected to step up his effort to sign Ajax and Netherlands stopper Jasper Cillessen to replace De Gea.
Cillessen, who played under Van Gaal during his stint as Holland head coach, joined Ajax in 2011 and has three years left on his current deal with the Amsterdam club.
