Manchester City have now reportedly set a surprisingly low price tag to sell £100k-a-week player

Date:

Manchester City do not necessarily have a need to make any major sales this summer. The Citizens have been handling their arrivals and departures rather well as it is, but some scenarios are unavoidable. Whether it be for sporting reasons or personal ones, some Manchester City players do not necessarily wish to stay beyond a given point.

Historically, Pep Guardiola has never been the kind of manager to force his players to remain at the club. The former Barcelona legend and current Manchester City coach has been vocal about many players in the past and how he does not intend to stop anyone from leaving if they wish to.

In this current Man City side, however, there has recently been an update that is not exactly the most pleasant kind of news. Julian Alvarez, the 24-year-old Argentine striker signed from River Plate in 2022, is reportedly seeking more playing time. Despite having some level of prominence and a lot of success in Manchester, the player apparently wants more.

In response to this, Pep Guardiola also did not hold back and stated that the door would be open for him if the player conveyed his decision:

“I read that he’s going to think about it. OK, think about it. Then he will inform us what he wants to do… Julian played a lot. He wants more? It’s fine. So that’s why (he wants to) think about it. And when he thinks about it, he will inform us.”

However, according to the latest update provided by Wayne Veysey of Football Insider, it is being reported that Manchester City would be willing to let go of the 24-year-old South American striker for a surprisingly low price.

In case any club manages to meet or exceed the £40 million mark, the Citizens would be willing to sell the Argentinian striker this summer.

This does come as a shock, however, given that the player is not running out of his contract any time soon. In fact, Alvarez is contracted to Manchester City until 2028 and also has a current valuation of €90 million. Despite this, the report states that the £40 million price tag is the one that any suitor will need to meet at the very least.

The FIFA World Cup winner with Argentina would surely only aim to leave for a club where he could become a guaranteed starter. At Man City, that simply is not possible at the moment with Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland still being the main ace for Guardiola’s treble-winning side.

In terms of his future, the player did say that he would only consider his options after the ongoing Olympic Games. Representing Argentina, the Manchester City forward is hoping to bring yet another piece of gold for his home nation and his final verdict may not come until after that.
