Premier League giants Manchester United have been dealt a fresh blow on the injury front. This comes amid confirmation that midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is set for an incoming spell on the sidelines.
Youngster Mainoo, for his part, has continued to cement himself as one of the first names on the team sheet of manager Erik ten Hag over the early weeks of the new campaign. All told, across Man United’s seven Premier League fixtures, the England international has featured from the off in each and every one.
Safe to say, then, that news of his impending absence will come as a blow for all associated with the Red Devils. As per a statement released across United’s website and social media platforms late on Thursday, Mainoo has picked up a ‘muscular injury’. The 19-year-old, as a result, is expected to be sidelined for ‘a few weeks’.
Elsewhere in Erik ten Hag’s ranks, Harry Maguire is also facing up to a spell on the treatment table, with a muscular issue of his own.
The news regarding the trio of Noussair Mazraoui, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo, though, is of an altogether more positive nature. This comes amid confirmation that all three have returned to group training:
‘Morocco international Mazraoui was substituted at half-time in our 0-0 draw at Aston Villa, due to illness, but is now back in training.
‘Garnacho and Amad were also in the training group after shaking off the knock and illness, which kept them out for Argentina and Ivory Coast, respectively.’
Manchester United will mark their post-international break return to action on Saturday, in a Premier League meeting with Brentford at Old Trafford. The Red Devils head into proceedings having endured an underwhelming opening to the season, to the tune of two wins, two draws and a trio of defeats across their seven league outings to date.
