Chelsea and Manchester United will be looking to compete for several standings and titles this season. Both English clubs have invested in their respective squads this summer and their goal remains to improve over their performances last season. However, even at Manchester United, there is not enough space to accommodate everyone.
As such, certain players are allowed to leave if the right offer comes along. Unfortunately, sometimes the right offer also ends up coming from a direct rival, and an out-of-favor player may even consider it a positive sign to join them if it means proving a point.
Such has been the case for English winger Jadon Sancho, who continues to evade the possibility of finding a place within the Manchester United first team. Following his loan back to Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund last season, a team he formerly played for on a permanent basis as well, the 24-year-old forward has now joined Premier League side Chelsea on loan.
That is not all, however, as Sancho has now appeared in an interview with the club’s social channels, (h/t Sky Sports) where he discussed his move and revealed that two of his idols growing up were none other than two iconic Chelsea legends.
“Chelsea is iconic, obviously. My idols growing up were Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard.”
While the inclusion of Lampard’s name makes sense, given that the former Chelsea midfielder was also an English icon. However, since the forward has also mentioned Didier Drogba, who hailed from the Ivory Coast, it would appear that his connection to Chelsea may be deeper than previously realized.
As to how this revelation settles down with Manchester United fans remains to be seen, but it is interesting to note that Sancho himself hails from Manchester City’s youth academy, who were direct local rivals of his current parent club. It seems that bypassing rivalries and bad blood is essentially most of what Sancho’s career has revolved around.
