Premier League club Manchester United has parted ways with legendary footballer Cristiano Ronaldo after his animated interview with Piers Morgan which was aired last week. A statement from the club “Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect.

Ronaldo told the anchor that he isn’t enjoying his time at Old Trafford and does not “have respect” for team manager Erik ten Hag. The Portuguese further claimed that Glazer family that owns the club don’t care about the field performance and results on the field.

The 37-year-old legendary footballer returned to the club for a second stint last year but fell out of favour this season under new manager primarily because of his recent performances.

The goal machine scored only one goal in 10 league appearances and two goals and two assists in six UEFA Europa League appearances for Manchester United. Ronaldo faced relegation to the role of a reserve player for all except two of the club’s 10 Premier League matches. He’s been in the arena for fewer than 45 minutes in seven games this season.

Over the summer, he had been looking for a move to a side in the Champions League as Old Trafford side failed to qualify, but no club came in with a transfer offer.

CR7 also faced disciplinary action after he refused to enter as a substitute in a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last month, but had returned to the starting xi afterwards and even captained the team in a 3-1 loss at Aston Villa.

Now a free agent, Ronaldo can join whatever club he likes. Chelsea was heavily interest in the player in the summer and may reignite that interest in January in order to sign the player.

Cristiano Ronaldo believes this is the “right time” to seek a new challenge and this new challenge lies at Stamford Bridge or elsewhere? We might have to wait till the World Cup is over.
