Manchester United v West Brom Team News & Starting Lineups

Date:

Manchester United take on Mid-table West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford in today’s Premier League encounter.

United had been winless in the Premier League in their last two games with goalless draws against Manchester City and Crystal Palace during their last two fixtures.

They most recently grabbed a win against CSKA Moscow with Wayne Rooney scoring the winner in the 79th minute of the Champions League tie.

Rooney has been under heavy Criticism from United fans and the media alike, with the English forward not scoring enough goals this season but with his goal against CSKA he would have gained new found confidence to score goals for the Red Devils.

Meanwhile, The Baggies have been shaky in their last six Premier matches with three wins and three losses. Their last game was a tough 2-3 loss to high-flying Leicester City, a game which saw Jamie Vardy edge closer to Rudd Van Nistelrooy’s consecutive goalscoring record in the Premier League.

Berahino and Venezuelan striker Jose Salomon Rondon are West Brom’s joint-leading scorers this season with three goals each, they are undoubtedly West Brom’s biggest attacking threat against United.

Louis Van Gaal will be looking towards the likes of Chris Smalling and Matteo Darmian to see off their challenge.

Team News

Manchester United

Phil Jones and Morgan Schneiderlin are expected to make their returns to the team for the game against West Brom. Captain Wayne Rooney is expected to feature once again having silenced his critics for the moment that had been asking for him to be dropped on the back of some poor performances with his goal scoring record not being the best this season.

Antonio Valencia and James Wilson are both doubts for the tie while Paddy Mcnair and Luke Shaw continue to be absentees due to long term injuries.

West Brom

Jonny Evans and Darren Fletcher are both expected to feature for West Brom, but shot-stopper Ben Foster is still recovering from a long-term knee injury. Chris Brunt is a doubt having picked up an injury late on last week.

West Brom will be looking to the attacking quality of Salomon Rondon and Sadio Berahino to get something out of the game.

Predicted Lineups:

Manchester United starting lineup (4-2-3-1 formation): De Gea; Rojo, Darmian, Smalling, Blind; Herrera, Martial; Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Mata; Rooney

West Brom starting lineup (4-4-2 formation): Myhill; Brunt, McAuley, Dawson, Evans; McClean, Fletcher, Yacob, Sessegnon; Berahino, Rondón
