Manchester United will face perennial heavyweights Tottenham Hotspurs in the English Premier League campaign opener at Old Trafford in Greater Manchester on Saturday morning.

The two clubs sat at a distance of just six points by the end of last season as Manchester United edged the North Londoners for the final Champions League spot.

Analysts believe they won’t be that close this year, as Manchester United have managed to widen the talent gap between two sides by signing the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay.

Tottenham did sign Toby Alderweireld from Atletico Madrid but overall maintained a low profile in an otherwise booming transfer market.

Spotlight Players

  • Bastian Schweinsteiger

The former Bayern Munich star would want to prove that Pep Guardiola was wrong to let him join the Old Trafford outfit after starting less than half (15) of Bayern’s 34 Bundesliga games last season. His metronomic passing and leadership skills could help Louis van Gaal find a balance between young legs and experienced old heads.

  • Harry Kane

Harry Kane became the first Tottenham player to lit up the Premier League with 21 goals in a single season since Gary Lineker in 1991-92, saving the season for Lilywhites and helping them qualify for the Europa League.

Robbie Fowler and Chris Sutton are the only players to reach 20 goals at a younger age than Kane.
