It’s not been even two weeks into pre-season and Manchester United have already had a familiar foe coming back to haunt the squad – injuries. If you thought last season was the last of the club’s injury issues, think again!
Erik ten Hag has already lost the services of Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro through injuries. The former is set to be out for six weeks whilst the latter, who is a new arrival at Old Trafford faces three months on the sidelines.
This has thrown a spanner in the works for Manchester United who now need to recalibrate their summer transfer planning. To add to his misery, Ten Hag now has one more headache to attend to. As per ESPN (tweeted by Fabrizio Romano), Marcus Rashford hobbled off with an injury in the Red Devils’ recent clash against Real Betis.
Man Utd continued their pre-season preparation with a game against Betis which they won 3-2. Rashford, Amad Diallo, and Casemiro were on the scoresheet for the Red Devils who look to build their way up to the Community Shield final.
The Red Devils have signed Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee this summer. The absence of the former through injury meant that United’s backline wore a familiar look with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof starting.
Zirkzee meanwhile is likely to help Ten Hag through the absence of Hojlund and the potential absence of Rashford. However, the ex-Bologna striker is not on the pre-season tour and is likely to link up with the squad ahead of the Community Shield final against Man City.
Injuries are becoming a persistent issue at Old Trafford and serious inspection needs to be done on the medical team and the training methods. It’s not common for a club to undergo as many injuries as the Red Devils have in the past 12 months. The only thing Man Utd fans can hope for is that Rashford’s issue is not serious and that he can be back as soon as possible.
