Arsenal have not made many additions this summer transfer window with their only signing so far being Italian youngster Riccardo Calafiori. The Euro 2024 star is left-footed and can play both as a left-back and a centre-back.
This however meant that the defensive area in Arsenal’s squad faced an overbooking with William Saliba, Gabriel, Ben White, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jurrien Timber, Calafiori, Kieran Tierney and Jakub Kiwior present as options.
Sacrifices had to be made this summer and as reported by reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Mikel Arteta has sent a message to Kiwior by snubbing the Polish international from his matchday squad against Wolves.
The journalist has revealed that Kiwior is one of those players who could leave Arsenal before the end of the transfer window but currently, it is an ‘open situation’ with no club necessarily close to signing the 24-year-old.
Kiwior has hardly established himself as a key player for Mikel Arteta’s team. He did get a run at the end of last season when Zinchenko was struggling with an injury and that’s about how much prominence he has enjoyed at the Emirates.
With Calafiori having joined Arsenal, the Italian defender is an upgrade on Kiwior in defence further reducing the Polish star’s chances of getting an extended run in the team. Thus, it does make sense to let him leave.
It remains to be seen which club makes an offer for Kiwior in the coming days. The message cannot be more clear to the player and only time will tell us if the Polish 24-year-old can find a new club to call home this season.
