The race for MVP has become more interesting than it has been for a long time. For a while, it seemed that LeBron James was the inevitable winner of the award as the competition against him was fragile.
Derrick Rose did take the award away from him once, but his injury ensured that he wouldn’t be in the discussion again for a long time. However, last year was the most competitive competition the award has seen in years. Until the end, no one knew who the clear favorite for the award was. It could have been anyone from Stephen Curry, James Harden, Russel Westbrook and LeBron James.
This year, an even tougher competition is expected. On top of the four candidates from last year, Kevin Durrant and Anthony Davis are surely ready to enter the equation.
However, this can be very firmly stated that there will not be more than one winners of the award. Keeping this in mind, let us have a look at some of the top contenders this year.
- Anthony Davis:
We heard lot about this kid when he entered the league. The predictions of how he would become the greatest player in the league were endless. However, after a few seasons, we are starting to understand what everyone meant. Davis led his team to the playoffs this past season for the first time since he joined the team. He is getting better by the year, and you can expect him to be outstanding enough this season to be included in the discussion for MVP. Overall, he has the best chances to become MVP after two players.
2- Stephen Curry:
Stephen Curry’s incredible season was not a fluke. He has been dangerous for many years now, and he exploded into form last season. You can expect the same versatile, cunning and sharp-shooting performances that won him the MVP award this season. Defending champions do seem to have a target on their back, but Curry will be more than willing to take on any challenge that comes his way. However, there is still one player who will have more chances of winning the award than him.
3- LeBron James:
It has been two long years since the King won his 4th MVP award. However, he is still the best player on the planet, and there can be very few arguments to oppose that. It took him a year to settle in Cleveland and now that he has, you can expect an explosive season from him. In the end, you can expect King James to raise his 5th MVP title.
