A leading member of the attacking ranks at Premier League outfit Newcastle United will soon see his terms with the club extended through the summer of 2030.
The player in question? Anthony Gordon. Wide-man Gordon is for his part in the midst of a fine start to the new campaign. After rattling off a hugely impressive tally of 11 goals and 10 assists in England’s top-flight last time out, the Englishman has continued to dazzle in the attacking third.
Just this weekend, Gordon won and converted a penalty kick, to ensure that his side emerged from a Premier League meeting with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City with a share of the spoils.
Recent word in the media, pointing towards those behind the scenes at St. James’ Park working hard to tie their wing wizard down to a new contract, in turn, had come as little surprise. And, if the latest word to have come to the fore on Tuesday is anything to go by, then those of a Newcastle persuasion can expect some positive news regarding as much ‘soon’.
As per a report from transfer insider Fabrizio Romano:
‘Anthony Gordon’s new deal at Newcastle will be formally signed soon. It will be valid until 2030, confirmed.’
Turning attentions towards the road ahead for Eddie Howe’s troops, Newcastle will mark their return to action on Tuesday evening. An EFL Cup meeting with AFC Wimbledon lies in wait, on Tyneside.
From here, focus will then be redirected back towards the Premier League, ahead of a trip to Merseyside to face Sean Dyche’s Everton this weekend. The Magpies have enjoyed a solid if unspectacular start to the new campaign in England’s top-flight, sitting 7th in the table as things stand. As much comes owing to a record of three victories, two draws and a solitary defeat across six fixtures.
