England are set to enter a new era under the leadership of Thomas Tuchel. The German is a rather combustible figure but a fantastic manager whose tactical acumen and man-management skills have seen him manage some of the biggest clubs across Europe. He has taken over an England side oozing with talent and quality but lacking the mentality and right guidance to go and win major tournaments.
Before Thomas Tuchel was appointed as the new England boss, Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe had been touted as a potential replacement for Gareth Southgate, who resigned after England’s 2-1 defeat to Spain in the 2024 Euro final in Germany.
Eddie Howe has done a wonderful job since taking over the reins at Newcastle United in November 2021. He led the Magpies to a Champions League spot and the Carabao Cup final during the 2022/23 season, just a year after they were battling relegation under Steve Bruce.
At a news conference on Friday as quoted by Sky Sports, the 46-year-old was asked if he had been approached for the England job.
Question: “Was there any contact at all from the FA?“
Howe: “No, no.“
One of the few brightest English tacticians around in the Premier League, Howe has straightforwardly denied any contacts from the FA over potentially becoming the new Three Lions head coach. He appears focused on the job at hand at Newcastle, trying to win games and accumulate as many points to help the club get back to the elite Champions League tournament.
The Magpies finished a disappointing seventh in the Premier League last season, thanks largely to injury problems to many key players. This hampered the rhythm and consistency of the team and all they could manage was 60 points from 38.
Having started the new campaign comparatively well with 12 points from the opening seven games, Howe will be desperate to bring the Champions League nights back to St James’ Park in 2025 and win silverware to end the club’s long trophy drought.
