After winning the first two games by 83 and 32 runs respectively, the hosts registered a thumping seven-wicket win in the third game in Abu Dhabi to secure the series.
Having bundled out Sri Lanka for 208 thanks to paceman Hassan Ali’s five-wicket haul, Pakistan rode on debutant opener Imam ul Haq’s century to chase down the modest target in 43rd over.
The defeat extended Sri Lanka’s losing streak in ODIs to 10 games. The Islanders have lost 19 of 23 ODIs this year, with the four wins coming against minnows Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.
The visitors are expected to bring back wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Mendis at the expense of Chamara Kapugedera, who suffered a freak injury during the third ODI. Barring that change, they are unlikely to tinker with their lineup.
Pakistan suffered a blow ahead of fourth ODI when all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez was reported for a suspected action for the third time since 2014. However, he is still likely to play, which means the hosts will be unchanged.
Pakistan have won their last five ODIs against Sri Lanka in Sharjah. The last time they lost to their Asian rivals in a 50-over game at this venue in 2002.
The fifth and final ODI will also be played in Sharjah on Monday. The one-day series will be followed by three T20 internationals, last of which will be held in Lahore.
