Having spent over a decade of professional career at Stamford Bridge, the former Chelsea legend is all set to earn Arsenal debut against his former employers in this afternoon’s Community Shield at Wembley.
The legendary shot-stopper will guard the nets behind a four-man defense that has seen youngster Hector Bellerin preferred over Mathieu Debuchy at right-back.
Theo Walcott has also been given a chance ahead of Olivier Giroud in the absence of Jack Wilshere, who has been ruled out of the crisp game against arch rivals after picking up a knee injury.
Leading goalscorer Diego Costa has also been ruled due to a hamstring injury, creating a starting opportunity for French striker Loic Remy to lead the strike alongside Eden Hazard William and Cesc Fabregas.
Nemanja Matic and Ramires will provide support to the main strike force while Gary Cahill will partner with captain John Terry in the heart of the defense.
New signings Radamel Falcao and Asmir Begovic have both been named among the substitutes, along with Brazilian playmaker Oscar.
