Liverpool have had a very good start to life under Arne Slot. The narrow loss to Nottingham Forest notwithstanding, the rest of the results have been favourable for the Dutch coach and the Reds from Merseyside.
Much of Liverpool’s performances so far have been built on a strong defence and precise attacks. They have only conceded two goals so far under Arne Slot, one in the Premier League and one in the Champions League.
One player who has been incredible for the Reds so far this season, much like his performances for the past few years is Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah. The 32-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down.
Three goals and as many assists in five games across all competitions makes for impressive reading. Should Liverpool have an impressive first season under Arne Slot, they will need Salah to fire on all cylinders throughout the campaign.
Pundit names one right-winger better than Mohamed Salah
Speaking in the Champions Club programme on CBS Sports Golazo in a discussion, pundit Nigel Reo-Coker has named Barcelona youngster Lamine Yamal as one right-winger in the world who he thinks is better than Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah. Here is what he had to say:
“I would pick Lamine over Mo Salah. Yes, I would. You asked me a question, and I answered it. I’ll pick him”
Reo-Coker explained previously in the same conversation what makes Lamine stand out. Here is what he had to say:
“When you look at him, there is one thing you say about him. When youngsters come out, they are young and still got lot to learn. You can’t say that when you look at Lamine Yamal. He for me is already playing like he is in his 30s and 40s.”
Take nothing away from the La Masia wonderkid; he is extremely talented and has the potential to define a generation. However, labelling him better than Mo Salah is a bit premature and it is the recency bias that is kicking in.
Salah has been performing at the highest level for many seasons now. 306 goal contributions in 354 games for Liverpool is incredible and Lamine has a long way to go before entering this conversation. He is only getting started.
Liverpool fans will surely not agree with this assessment. Mohamed Salah is going strong in his 30s and one can only hope that he gives us one more good season this time around. Let us wait and see how it goes.
