Salah Trains at 20% for Fear of Getting Injured: Moreno

It’s safe to say that Liverpool’s decision to acquire forward Mo Salah from Roma last summer was a good investment. The Egyptian international came over from the Serie A side for a fee of about £44 million, which is a number that certainly pales in comparison to his value at this point. Salah has bagged 43 goals in all competitions in his first season on Merseyside while helping Liverpool reach the Champions League Final for the first time in over a decade.

Real Madrid will be favored in the final, but you can find many betting sites with favorable odds for Jurgen Klopp’s side. The Reds have boasted arguably the most prolific attack in Europe this season, so the Spanish giants won’t have it easy against Salah and company.

Salah’s match form has been largely impeccable this season, and it helps that he’s been consistently available for selection. Liverpool have endured injuries to several key players this term, but Salah has been able to stay largely ailment-free. How has he been able to keep himself in top form?

In an interview with Onda Cero radio, teammate Alberto Moreno said that Salah doesn’t go overboard in training. Moreno said, “He is a great guy, very humble, very calm. I don’t think on the pitch there is any need to explain what he is like because everybody has watched him play and the numbers are there for everyone to see. He is having a fantastic campaign.”

“I don’t think he is the same in training. He trains at 20 percent because he fears getting injured and to be at the top form in the games.”

Salah started both legs in the Champions League semi-final tie with his former club, AS Roma. He was held off the scoresheet in Rome, but he did score Liverpool’s first two goals in a 5-2 win at Anfield. The Reds advanced to the Champions League Final thanks to a 7-6 triumph on goal aggregate.

Moreno, who started as the team’s No. 1 left back but has since been replaced by Andy Robertson, went on to say that his team has a lot of respect for their opponent in the Champions League Final, Real Madrid. Madrid are on the verge of winning Europe’s most prestigious trophy for a third consecutive season.

Moreno, who is from Spain, added, “I’ve faced them [Madrid] more than once, it’s very complicated. They are very good players, they have a great team. But they are in the same position as us. We have very dangerous players up front like Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino. We have a great side to fight for in this Champions League.”

Moreno faced Real Madrid while with Sevilla before making the move to Liverpool in the summer of 2014. The Spaniard has struggled to earn regular rotation time since injuring his ankle in December. He has made just four starts in all competitions for Jurgen Klopp’s side since the calendar flipped to 2018.

He said, “I got injured against Spartak Moscow in December and the truth is that it took me two months to recover from my ankle injury. I returned to play and did well. I’m not happy with the situation, but it was down to an injury and not a decision that he [Klopp] made. What every player wants is to play and have minutes. But right now, this is not the time to think about that but rather to enjoy that we are in a Champions League Final, which doesn’t happen often.”
