Manchester United would be keen to put pressure on local rivals Manchester City when they host bottom-of-the-table Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Louis van Gaal’s side made a feeble start to the new season, but they were able to bounce back with three League victories in a row, last of which came against Southampton on 20th September.
The Red Devils currently sit two points behind table leaders City.

Meanwhile, Sunderland followed their tradition of making poor starts to the season this year as well. In fact, this is now the third season successive season in which the Black Cats have lost all of their first six league matches.

Saturday’s game doesn’t seem likely to seal Advocaat’s fate despite the fact that his side’s lone victory came against Exeter City in the second round of the League Cup. However, an upset would ease some of the pressure that has been mounting on him.

For Van Gaal, anything other than a victory here would be an enormous shock.

Team news

Manchester United have malfunctioning left-back, with Marcus Rojo sidelined by a hamstring injury sustained during the match against Southampton last weekend and Luke Shaw is a long-term absentee.

In the absence of Argentine international, Ashley Young could again play at the left-back position as he did in the midweek clash against Ipswich Town in the third round of Capital One Cup.

Defender Paddy McNair is battling injury vows while defender Phil Jones is in contention for a starting place after recovering from thrombosis.

Sunderland duo of Jack Rodwell and Jermain Defoe and are doubts due to ankle and hamstring injuries respectively.

The Black Cats are boosted by the return of Younes Kaboul, who missed the midweek defeat against Manchester City to serve his one-match suspension.

Predicted Lineups

Manchester United:
De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Blind, Darmian, Carrick, Schneiderlin, Mata, Memphis, Rooney, Martial

Sunderland:
