The Super Bowl 50: Denver Broncos

The Broncos are labeled as underdogs in this Super Bowl, but they certainly have enough quality to defeat Carolina after founding themselves in the finals for the second time in three years. The team that lost heavily to Seattle in Super Bowl 48 is not the same as the current one. Here are the key reasons why Denver could win.

Tremendous pass rushing

Denver’s pass rushing is the best in the NFL, and they caused a lot of problems to Tom Brady in the AFC Finals two weeks ago. Aaron Rodgers also felt the fury of Von Miller, DeMarcus Ware and Derek Wolfe. They hurried Brady 20 times in the previously mentioned game, and the premier quarterback simply couldn’t get the things going. Defensive lineman Malik Jackson is also an essential part of the rush, and he will be there to destroy Carolina’s pocket. Cam Newton, better be ready to drop back frequently.

Excellent special teams

I’ll start with the punter. Britton Colquitt is fantastic in the playoffs, and he punted the ball inside New England’s 10 yards on three occasions. His leg maybe isn’t the longest one, but the technique and accuracy are one of the league’s finest. That’s why he’s with Broncos for many seasons; they know to appreciate his abilities. With him in the team, the defense will regularly play with great field position. Kayvon Webster is another guy from special teams that will close down every ball with his quickness and tenacity. Remember these two names.

Double running game

Unlike Carolina, who has a running quarterback, Denver has two excellent running back, and opponents never know which one will explode. Ronnie Hillman and CJ Anderson will likely share the snaps, and both have a great opportunity to find the end zone. Carolina’s defence may struggle to cope with them and no-huddle offense, Peyton Manning’s trademark.

Wade Phillips

One of the best defensive coordinators in NFL history, Phillips improves defenses wherever he goes. In his first stint with the Broncos, they reached the Super Bowl in 1989, so this isn’t just coincidence. His defence is the best in the league this season, and they scored the most points as well. They completely locked Tom Brady in the last game, and it will be absorbing to see what Phillips prepared for the final clash with Carolina.

Superior secondary

Carolina will likely run the ball more, but when Newton decides to pass, Denver’s secondary is going to be all over the receivers. Chris Harris and Aqib Talib is the best pair of the cornerbacks in the NFL this season and with TJ Ward and Darian Steward as safeties, it will be tough for Olsen, Ginn, Cotchery and other Carolina’s receivers to score a touchdown or get plenty of catches. They allowed less than 200 passing yards per game, and they’re holding a top spot in that sequence. They also allowed 30+ points only once in 18 games this year, so if defenses win the championships, Denver’s destined for the trophy.
