There’s no denying the fact that Arsene Wenger is the force solely responsible for Arsenal’s abundant success following the transition from Highbury to the Emirates Stadium.
But considering the rocky path Arsenal have been on over the past few seasons a lot of Arsenal fans and pundits alike have come to the conclusion that Wenger has overstayed his welcome.
Wenger will always be remembered for taking Arsenal to the Next Level and helping them attain the heights that they boast of today.
In Short, Wenger is a big part of Arsenal’s history, but he might have to leave for the Gunners to entertain a new era of success.
The Reoccurring Problems
Wenger doesn’t seem to have instilled a competitive edge into his Arsenal side considering how easily they lose track of the task at hand.
On many occasions, Arsenal have come close to winning some good silverware, but they tend to fall short of expectations at the end of it all due to the lack of competitive edge.
The Gunners started the season on a very high note, but by the looks of things now, Wenger faces somewhat of a mammoth task regarding ending the season strongly.
As usual, Arsenal were touted as title favorites, but this time with good cause as the League’s regular title chasers were nowhere near the type of form that would see them lift the coveted trophy.
After a long run of success, an abysmal run of form as well as the uprising of Leicester City and Spurs served as a major infringement to Arsenal’s title chances.
Their Champions League exit at the hands of Barcelona most definitely won’t help matters either, although being humbled by the most dominant footballing force in the world is nothing to be ashamed of.
Squad Depth
One major problem that has halted Arsenal’s move for the Premier League trophy in the past couple of years is the lack of squad depth.
Arsenal don’t seem to be able to cope with injuries which in turn causes them to lose out on great opportunities to win trophies.
The immediate cause of the or Squad-depth issue is Wenger’s unwillingness to make key signings in the transfer window which leaves them with dead-weight players anytime they’re hit hard by injuries.
Complacency
The Premier League is a very fast-paced and competitive League, which leaves no room whatsoever for slip-ups, but despite being well aware of that fact, Arsenal have earned themselves a reputation for being the most complacent top side in the League.
Arsenal have lost a lot of title races from winning positions in the past, and they will most likely continue to do so except Arsene Wenger hits the road, or he goes back to the drawing board.
Can The Gunners Savage something this season?
In my opinion, the best thing Arsenal can do is secure Champions League qualification as the title race is obviously between Tottenham and Leicester City.
Although mathematically Arsenal still have a shot at being crowned Premier League Champions at the end of the season, realistically it’s just not going to happen.
At this stage, Arsene Wenger should be looking towards next season in order to avoid making the same mistakes over and over again.
