Three destinations for Harry Kane this summer

Date:

It’s Groundhog Day at Tottenham Hotspurs as once again one of their best players wants to leave for greener pastures. We’ve seen this soap opera before with Gareth Bale, Luka Modric, Kyle Walker & Dimitar Berbatov, now it’s the turn of Kane to make his exit plea. Our team takes a look at the destinations for Harry Kane this summer.

According to reports from The Athletic and Sky Sports, the England Captain has stated he wants to leave Tottenham if they fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League. The 27-year-old has three years left on his contract with no release clause in sight. Meaning if a club were to purchase him, they’d either have to pay Daniel Levy’s £120m asking price or rely on the striker to force his way out.

Manchester United

For the past five years, Harry Kane’s name has been on the lips of every Manchester United executive’s lips. Outside of Jadon Sancho, he’s the one British marquee signing they’ve all wanted. Now, the 27-year-old has finally stated his intention to leave, they can make their move.

The Red Devils signed Edinson Cavani last summer in hope that he would fill the void left behind by Romelu Lukaku, due to Anthony Martial’s failure to do so. However, Cavani has failed to settle in and already intends on moving on this summer.

It’s always been said that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team are one centre-back and striker away from mounting a legitimate title challenge. Every other department of their squad is on par with their rivals. As for Kane, a move to Old Trafford would elevate his status significantly, placing him in the upper echelon of football heritage. This move gives Kane his UCL football plus the realistic chance of winning trophies while United get the world-class striker they’ve been looking for.

Manchester City

Last week, Sergio Aguero announced to the world that he would be moving onto greener pastures at the end of the season. After 10 years and 257 goals, the Argentinean will not be wearing City colours next season. This leaves Pep Guardiola with a striker conundrum, a conundrum he has already dealt with very well this season.

At times, City have not had both Aguero & Gabriel Jesus available, forcing Guardiola to think outside the box and play one of Sterling, De Bruyne & Torres in the false 9 role. That’s why the links to Erling Haaland have been so rampant in recent weeks but for City, Harry Kane would be a much more attainable and feasible target. From the player’s point of view, the opportunity to work with the best manager on the planet would only take his game to the next level.

Arsenal

Ok, this may sound crazy but it’s actually not. Arsenal is in the list of probable destinations for Harry Kane as the Englishman wants UCL football and as of writing, Gunners are more likely to provide him with that than Tottenham. All Arsenal have to do is win the Europa League, a competition that only has one other threat in Manchester United, a team that hasn’t beaten Arsenal in their past 5 meetings.

After having to experience the terrors of the park the bus connoisseur, Kane can move 5 miles up the road and play for a disciple of Guardiola and Arsène Wenger. Lest we forget, Harry Kane grew up as an Arsenal fan and was unfortunately released from the Hale End academy in 2002 for being a ‘bit chubby’ according to Liam Brady. That broke the youngster’s heart but now things can come full circle allowing the best striker in the league to play for his boyhood club.

Verdict

If I had to put my neck on the line, I’d predict that Manchester United outranks other possible destinations for Harry Kane. I base this on the suspicion that Manchester City will be focusing a lot of their funds into generating a bumper contract offer for the wantaway Lionel Messi. While Arsenal will be trying to stretch their resources as far as they can go to address several weak spots in the squad. On top of that, Daniel Levy will drive a hard bargain over a player he doesn’t necessarily need to sell and only Ed Woodward would be crazy enough to succumb to his demands.
