The Unai Emery era is upon us and the Spaniard is evidently hell-bent on revamping the Arsenal squad. Improving the current personnel as well, the 46-year-old will seek to bring in several reinforcements. According to reports, Emery has spoken with Arsène Wenger about areas of the squad that need improvement. It will now be Sven Mislintat’s job to scout those players while Raul Sanllehi will be tasked with negotiating those deals.
Here are three players that could be Unai Emery’s first three signings as Arsenal manager.
1Marquinhos (CB)
Above all, Arsenal is in dire need of a centre-back to cure their defensive woes. Shkodran Mustafi has proven not to be good enough while Laurent Koscielny’s Achilles heel has given up on him. Then there’s Rob Holding and Calum Chambers, two inexperienced defenders who have had limited guidance. Although Unai Emery has the ability to turn around the fortunes of all these defenders, another centre-back is still needed.
At 24 years of age, Marquinhos is in the prime of his career and a perfect player to take his career to a new level at Arsenal. The Brazilian is quick, versatile, agile, strong in the air and exceptional at man marking strikers. At the Emirates, the 24-year-old would be a guaranteed starter, something he’s not sure of at the Parc des Princes. It’s believed that the centre-back would be available for the measly price of £27million, something the Gunners could afford with ease.
