Three Reasons Why Juventus Will Win the Title This Season

Date:

Italian football giants, Juventus F.C. of Turin have held the league under siege, winning five consecutive titles spanning from 2011/12 up until last season.

They are widely accepted to be the best team in the competition, but every season, critics and doubters expect them to be dethroned by the likes of Internazionale, AC Milan, Roma and Napoli. The squad is likely to have some significant departures this summer, with Morata rejoining Real Madrid and Paul Pogba expected to adorn the colours of Manchester United next season. Below, however, is why Juventus will win the Serie A title this season yet again.

New Recruits

The Juventus recruitment team entered this window in overdrive, signing players from home and abroad, and adding layers of quality to a side that is already head and shoulders above everyone else in Serie A.

With one month still to go in the transfer window, they’ve already brought in Gonzalo Higuain, Marko Pjaca, Mehdi Benatia, Miralem Pjanic, Dani Alves and Simon Ganz.

Four of these players have proved themselves in various top clubs in Europe, while Marko Pjaca is one of the most highly rated young wingers in the game.

When now looking at the Juve squad, you see last season’s best goalkeeper (Buffon), the stingiest defence (Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini), both of the standout midfielders (Pogba and Pjanic), and top scorer (Higuain).

Most of the players who will find themselves on the bench this season will have enough quality to start at most top clubs in the league.

Firepower

The list of forwards currently on Juventus’ books reads Gonzalo Higuain, Mario Mandzukic, Paulo Dybala and Simeone Zaza, representing an incredible amount of firepower.

When combined, the four of them scored a total of 82 goals in all competitions last season, which is more than a lot of European clubs managed to score. If it’s true that goals win games, then Juventus are going to win a lot of games this season thanks to the goal-scoring ability of these players.

There is also the psychological side of going into games knowing you have by far the best set of attackers in the league. Most opponents are defeated even before stepping onto the field of play.

Quality of opposition

While Juventus have been stacking up on quality players this summer, the teams who will usually compete with them for the title are too busy fending off suitors for their prized targets to be able to make decent acquisitions themselves.

The Old Lady already have an advantage over the immediate chasing pack Napoli and Roma by signing both of their most important players; Gonzalo Higuain and Miralem Pjanic respectively.

Internazionale and AC Milan might end up losing Mauro Icardi and Carlos Bacca to some of Europe’s richest clubs. Whilst With the exception of Arkadiusz Milik who has recently joined Napoli, none of the new signings made by rival clubs are enough of a statement to nearly worry Juventus.

Juve won the 2013/14 season at a canter, with a record 102 points and 33 wins, and they have the squad and manager to challenge that record this year. The only real question is; can they go all the way in the UEFA Champions League?
