Three Signings That Can Help Liverpool Retain the Title

Date:

Jurgen Klopp managed side, Liverpool, were finally able to break the 30-year drought at  Anfield. The team lifted their first Premier League title at Anfield when they thrashed Chelsea with a scoreline of 5-3. Though Chelsea staged a comeback at some point in the game, Liverpool warded off the threat with a massive win. Liverpool also registered an unbelievable near-perfect home record where they drew only one game and won the rest. However, if Liverpool are to continue their dominance in England, they need reinforcement before the next season kicks off.

Great teams have quality on their bench. Pep Guardiola has a great bench at Etihad which fetched him two top-flight titles back to back. It is the same case during Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure at Old Trafford. Sir Alex had a bunch of players on the bench who can turn around the match in “Fergie” time. Similarly, if Jurgen Klopp has to make similar strides, Liverpool has to sign a few players who can provide depth to his side.

Here is a list of players whom Jurgen Klopp has to sign in order to retain the title:

Thiago Alcantara

Thiago Alcantara Liverpool

Recently, Thiago Alcantara rejected the improved contract of Bayern Munich and has entered his final 12 months’ stay at Bavaria. The player is interested in a move, and his favoured destination is Anfield. Though Liverpool has a stupendous midfield, the team still lacks in the creative front since the departure of Phillippe Coutinho. Thiago Alcantara can provide a new dimension to Jurgen Klopp’s midfield. The deep-lying midfielder can create and make things happen.

The player is still 29 and has his prime years in his kitty. With the reputation and experience the player has, he can be a long-term servant for the Anfield based outfit.

Jamal Lewis

Jamal-Lewis-Liverpool

Liverpool has one of the best set of fullbacks in club football. Trent Alexander Arnold and Andy Robertson have been the deadliest fullbacks in the English top-flight. Despite Andy Robertson is one of the best left-backs, Jurgen Klopp requires a protective cover and competition for the left-back competition. Canaries’ left-back, Jamal Lewis is a perfect player for that position.

In a dismal campaign of Canaries, there have been individuals like Todd Cantwell, Emi Buendia who have impressed a lot. Among those, Jamal Lewis can fit the bill for Liverpool. Jamal Lewis has featured in 28 games in the top flight. The player can be an apt deputy for the Scottish international with years to come in his career.

Moussa Dembele

Moussa-Dembele Liverpool

Roberto Firmino had one of the poorest home seasons in his footballing career. One home goal across the campaign might have made Jurgen Klopp realize that he requires a proper backup for his side. And the back up can be Moussa Dembele.

The Lyon player has clocked in the statistics to be an Anfield player. He has 23 goals in 45 goals for Olympique Lyon. Dembele’s qualities like pace, aerial threat in the box and calmness in front of the goal can be of use great use to Jurgen Klopp when things don’t go according to the plan.

  1. Great article, all transfers seem quite realistic for Liverpool as they are slightly cheaper options and actually make sense rather than Koulibaly or Sancho. Thiago should only be bought if we sell Wijnaldum due to the abundance of midfielders and lack of promise for playing time, but the most needed transfer would be Jamal Lewis, as we lack a second left back. Props for remaining non-biased despite being a United fan haha
