For whatever the reason, Antonio Conte feels that Michi Batshuayi is not up to the desired standard at Chelsea Football Club. It appears that Blues boss would prefer a striker in the mould of a tall target man, something the Belgian is not.
So, he’s now going out of his way to find a target man that would be his plan B option for when Alvaro Morata cannot deliver the goods. As the transfer window comes to an end tomorrow evening, time is running out for the Blues, and they’ve now cited Olivier Giroud as their no.1 target. Is he the best choice for Chelsea? I don’t think so.
Here are three strikers Chelsea could sign instead of Olivier Giroud.
3Christian Benteke
The Belgian may not possess the technical quality of Olivier Giroud, but regarding the traits Antonio Conte is looking for, he fits the bill perfectly. Not only is he a ‘tall target man’, but he’s also a proven Premier League goalscorer. He’s never truly been given a chance at a big club, at Liverpool he was only given one season under a manager who didn’t believe in him.
Now Christian Benteke is the kingpin at Selhurst Park, but his talents are far more befitting of a stadium like Stamford Bridge. As a backup to Alvaro Morata, Benteke would be the perfect option to bring on in the 75th minute when the opposing defenders are at their most tired. For just under £20m, Christian Benteke could be a Chelsea player on Deadline Day.
