Unsung Heroes of Liverpool This Year

Date:

Liverpool have been devastatingly fantastic this season and by all accounts have won their first Premier League trophy; their first top flight championship in 30 years. However, Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Virgil Van Dijk normally take all the headlines but who have been the unsung heroes this season?

Allison, Goalkeeper

Allison Liverpool

The Brazilian goalkeeper was brought in for a huge amount of money from Roma but that sum is barely anything now given the amount of clean sheets and defensive assurances he has brought to a previously shaky Liverpool side. He has twelve clean sheets this season from eighteen appearances.

It is not just his traditional goalkeeping skills that set him apart but his distribution as well. He is calm and collected with the ball at his feet and is able to start attacks from the back. His ball playing contribution was highlighted this season when he managed to pick out Salah who finished off Manchester United in their 2-0 home win.

Fabinho, Defensive Midfielder

Fabinho Liverpool

Another Brazilian but this one is able to command the midfield with his strength and dominance. Fabinho does not get all the plaudits because he is a not a pretty midfielder who creates chance after chance but he does the dirty work by committing tackle after tackle.

As stated he may not be the most creative but he does have three assists in the league this year and one goal. However, that goal is in contention for goal of the season as he blasted a vicious strike past Ederson from all of 25 yards out. It was a vital goal in helping Liverpool move away from Manchester City in November.

Divock Origi, Striker

Divock Origi

Origi seems to know his role in this Liverpool set up. He knows he is not going to start every week ahead of Salah, Mane and Firmino but knows he might be required to save the day when brought on from the bench or start a few games if there is an injury. He proved this last season in the Champions League semi-final and final as he bagged in both games.

This season he may only have three goals but two of them came against Merseyside rivals Everton; he will always be a cult hero if he scores against Everton. The energy he brings to the side really helps them when they need to push on and find a winner.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Right Back

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Arguably the best right back in the world at the moment. At times he can be quite susceptible defensively but he has adopted the new modern right back role fantastically. He has so much stamina that he will keep running and running all day long; whether that be forwards or backwards.

Alexander-Arnold possess another key skill and that is his range of passing from a dead ball or moving ball scenario. Liverpool are essentially playing with a creative midfielder at right back as he is able to find a pass that many others cannot. He currently has thirteen Premier League assists and is only bettered by Kevin De Bruyne with 16 assists.

Jordan Henderson, Central Midfield

Jordan Henderson

At one time Henderson was seen as your average central midfielder who will just run tirelessly and hustle players. However, he still does all of that and his work rate is exactly what manager Jurgen Klopp has been working on since he arrived but he has managed to improve on his range of passing and can find the pass that he might have been afraid of playing earlier in his career.

His leadership makes him stand out as a key component in this Liverpool side as he is constantly motivating his teammates to give it their all so that they are able to add another trophy to their ever growing cabinet. Henderson will, more than likely, be the first English captain to win a Premier League, a Champions League, a League Cup and a Club World Cup.
