Van Gaal Ready To Break The Bank For Bayern Star

Date:

Manchester United are desperate to sign a quality striker this summer and have reportedly lodged a £60-million bid to secure the signatures of Bayern Munich’s striker Thomas Muller, according to Jeremy Cross of the Daily Star.

Louis van Gaal is keen to sign the German World Cup winner before the close of summer transfer business and is ready to hand a whopping £1million a month in a bid to lure him to Old Trafford.

With Muller in the side, United could genuinely push for major honors again but the player will have to take up the issue himself and make it clear he wants to leave Bayern.

Besides monetary benefits, the Germany international could be tempted to reunite with his former boss Louis van Gaal, who coached him during his stint with Bayern.

“Louis van Gaal and I have a relationship that goes beyond that which is normal between a player and a coach,” Cross quoted him saying.

Sports Courant understands that Bayern chiefs want to keep hold of their star player and are unwilling to let a second big name join the Red Devils this summer following the departure of Bastian Schweinsteiger in a £10m deal.

However, if Muller is ready to make the switch to Old Trafford, club management may be forced to relent.

Should the sensational move for Muller fall through, it would represent a grand statement signing for the Old Trafford outfit.

The Red Devils have moved on three attacking players this summer but succeeded only in landing Memphis Depay.

Though the Dutchman has looked promising in his early appearances for the club, United need at least one more forward to be able to launch a serious title challenge this season.

Van Gaal allowed Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao to leave this summer without finding a replacement, means he has moved into the new season with skipper Wayne Rooney as his only first-choice recognised forward and James Wilson and Javier Hernandez providing the backup.
