Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal has decided to replace Marcos Rojo with Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi during the winter transfer window, Manchester Evening News has reported.
Rojo has struggled to find a regular place in United’s starting line-up since his £16-million switch to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon last summer and has managed just 23 Premier League appearance for the club to date.
His relationship with Van Gaal has broken down over the last few months after he failed to join United for the pre-season campaign due to passport issues.
This season, he has played just two games for the club so far, making his first appearance in a 3-2 win against Southampton on September 12.
According to MEN, Van Gaal is considering to sell the Argentine during the January transfer window and bring Martins Indi to Old Trafford as his replacement.
Indi shares a close working relationship with the Van Gaal as he made his Netherlands international debut during his time in charge as country’s head coach and he was a regular member of the side at the 2014 World Cup under him.
The Dutchman has already sent his scouts to Portugal to monitor Martins Indi in action this season. His current contract with the Portuguese club runs until 2018.
Meanwhile Rojo is on the radar of French Club Monaco, who wanted him as part of the Anthony Martial deal, but Van Gaal has decided to keep the 25-year-old on the last day of the transfer window.
