Why Chelsea Should Turn Their Attention To Andrea Belotti

It has been a very frustrating transfer window for Chelsea supporters so far following their superb season in the Premier League last time out as they were crowned champions. Due to their lack of movement in the transfer market, there has been speculation about Antonio Conte’s future, and they now look set to miss out on another of their primary transfer targets in Romelu Lukaku.

Speculation regarding a possible return to Atletico Madrid for Diego Costa has increased over recent weeks, and if a deal was to be completed, it would leave Chelsea with very few attacking options. Hence, Conte desperately needs to find another striker to add to his squad at Stamford Bridge ahead of next season.

One player who Conte appears to have stepped up his interest in is Torino’s 23-year-old striker Andrea Belotti. Belotti was an original target for Manchester United, but now they have struck a deal for Lukaku, it is highly unlikely the Italian will make a move to Old Trafford.

There is no doubt that Belotti has developed into a lethal finisher in the last few years, and his record in Serie A for Torino supports this. He finished as top scorer in his debut season for the club as he found the back of the net 12 times. However, he significantly improved on his tally this season as he scored 25 goals in 32 games in Italy’s top flight as he helped Torino to a 9th placed finish.

The Italian forward would certainly add another dimension to Chelsea’s forward line. He is a powerful striker and would suit Conte’s style of play down to the ground due to his high work rate and stamina.

If Conte was able to persuade Costa to remain at Stamford Bridge, then he could form a potentially devastating partnership with Belotti next season. It would be a forward line that not many top flight teams could handle and would put the Blues in good stead for retaining their Premier League crown.

Reports have suggested that Conte was fuming with the fact Chelsea failed to land Lukaku, who was one of his main summer targets, despite matching Manchester United’s bid of £75 million. However, a move for Belotti will not be cheap as the Serie A side value the striker at around £90 million.

The Chelsea manager will be desperate to make sure the Blues do not miss out on yet another transfer target. However, Conte is also said to have the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Alvaro Morata, Javier Hernandez and Fernando Llorente on his list of potential targets for this summer.

Chelsea supporters will also be hoping that Michy Batshuayi could step up this season after being given limited opportunities to shine by Conte in the last campaign.

The Blues snapped him up from Marseille for £33 million last summer, and he scored the goal which clinched them the Premier League title against West Bromwich Albion in May. The 23-year-old will be looking to take advantage of any opportunities which come his way next season to try and prove to Conte that he can be the solution to his lack of attacking options.

  1. Chelsea shd go all out for Beloti. I don’t think Chelsea has missed anything as regards Lukaku signing for man u. Beloti looks more ruthless in attack compared to Lukaku. Conte shd do everything possible to secure Beloti and forgive Costa and allow him to stay to partner Beloti. That will be deadly. Morata is too soft to play in the epl.
