Michael Owen, Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, Fernando Torres, Pepe Reina, Luis Suarez, etc., are not only some of the biggest names in football, but, they are also the biggest players Liverpool have lost to bigger and better clubs over the past decade and a half. Though a big name, Philippe Coutinho, is still a long way from these superstars in both personal achievements and trophies.
Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have transformed into a battle hardened, and extremely attacking team. So far after 3 rounds of Premier League Football, Liverpool have scored 8 goals and scored 6 more goals against Hoffenheim in the Champions League play-offs.
This leads me to believe that they have a settled attacking trio in the form of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Most of their attacking moves were started and completed by this exciting trio. Liverpool, unlike last season, look like an unstoppable team even without Philippe Coutinho in the side. It is still hard to believe that Liverpool’s progress this season, has been without Coutinho.
In recent times, Liverpool have lost their biggest superstars to some Spanish clubs and suffered. But, losing Coutinho to Barcelona should be seen as a definite positive.
If rumours are to be believed, Liverpool might get a fee in the region of £145million from Coutinho’s sale. All this money for a player who is yet to feature for the Reds in the league this season would be a huge deal. Coutinho has shown a huge interest in moving to Barcelona. Keeping such a player in a team against his wishes could tarnish the morale of the whole team.
So, if Coutinho’s wish is granted and he ends up moving to Barcelona, Liverpool would not be facing a bad apple situation in their dressing room. On top of it, they could make a massive profit, which could help in various other areas.
The Brazilian’s transfer fee could help Liverpool in strengthening their defence and help in signing players who can provide enough cover during the second-half of the season when the January transfer window opens up.
Even after spending on players like Salah and Chamberlain, they could still be in the market on the last day of the transfer window to sign a Fullback and a goalkeeper in addition to Andrew Robertson, should they fail to do so on deadline day then Klopp would most likely make a foray or two into the transfer market in January in a bid to bolster his side’s defence.
