The FA has slapped a one-match suspended ban and £50,000 fine on Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho over his post-match comments regarding the referee after the game against Southampton earlier this month.
Mourinho suggested that match referee Robert Madley was afraid to award his side a foul in the penalty box after Stekelenburg’s contact with Falcao in the encounter mentioned above.
The Portuguese manager stressed after the game that Chelsea is recently being punished by the referees and the FA reacted to those remarks with suspension and fine. His stadium ban will be immediately invoked should he comment or release a statement to the media regarding referees and officiating before 13th October 2016.
Let’s recall this is not the first time Mourinho has got punished in his managerial career. The Portuguese tactician regularly served bans and paid fines during the last ten years at Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.
In April 2005, he got stadium ban for his behavior in the game between Chelsea and Barcelona in the Champions League. He allegedly tried to sneak into the stadium in a laundry basket in the next round versus Bayern Munich.
In September 2009, Mourinho was banned for one match after abusing the referee in a clash with Cagliari in Serie A while he was in charge at Inter.
After a handcuff gesture to Sampdoria fans in February 2010, Mourinho got a three-game ban and €40,000 fine.
In November 2010, he got a two-match ban for being sent off for protesting to the referee during the game against Real Murcia in Copa del Rey.
Another ridiculous two-game ban Mourinho got after he was yelling at his players to get booked in a game against Ajax in the CL in December 2010.
After losing to Barcelona in May 2011, “The Special One” got a five-game ban for post-match comments.
In October 2011, Mourinho poked the eye of Tito Vilanova, Barcelona’s assistant coach, and he got a two-game ban.
His last suspension before coming back to England was in a Copa del Rey final’s loss against Atletico Madrid in May 2013.
Mourinho’s ban history is not short at all and the question is whether he should be called “The Special One” or “The Nervous One”?
