Will Neymar be exiting the French capital?

Date:

There is huge news coming out of France at the moment, and it is not that Paris Saint Germain have secured their 7th league title and their 12th Coupe De France but that their star man Neymar is ready to leave the French capital in favour of a return to Spain. However, it is not back to Barcelona.

Neymar took the plunge and moved away from the dominant La Liga side in the summer transfer window in 2017 for a world record fee of £200 million. This fee was an astronomical and you would expect a player worth that much to stay more than one year. But it looks like he will be leaving after secret meetings with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

It has been revealed that he has had meetings with representatives of Los Blancos in March this year. He has become disillusioned with life in Paris and is desperate to get out just nine months into his contract which expires in 2022.

Although PSG have done well domestically, as expected, they have struggled to compete once again on the European scene. They were eliminated by finalists Real Madrid at the round of 16 as they lost both home and away legs. It was yet another disappointing year in the Champions League as they failed to impress on Europe’s biggest stage once again even though they have spent a war chest of money on players.

Neymar has also been injured for three months and has missed the end of the season in a bid to be fit for the World Cup in Russia. Sources close to the world star are hoping that he has played his last game for PSG and will be returning to Spain as soon as possible.

Barcelona would not stand in the way of Madrid’s efforts, as they have already paid out millions for Ousmane Dembele and compatriot Philippe Coutinho recently.

The signing of Neymar would be a real signing of intent as Real Madrid have struggled in the league this year. They have an ageing squad that needs to be revitalised despite managing to reach the Champions League final. However, Real Madrid will be looking at players of Neymar’s quality, and probably brand, to sign in the transfer window.

If the deal was to go through it would boost Real Madrid’s hopes of winning La Liga next season as they look to regain dominance over Barcelona. His flair, speed and eye for goal is what sets him apart from the normally admiring crowd. His goal scoring record in Spain is phenomenal, and it would not take him long at all to add to his 68 La Liga goals.
