£100k-a-week Arsenal player agrees terms with Ligue 1 club but ‘deal not close yet’ – Romano

Date:

Arsenal have been quite active in the transfer market this season having signed Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna. However, they are looking to reinforce other areas of the pitch for which they might have to make sales.

One player who might be moved on this summer is Eddie Nketiah. Despite having some impressive performances for the Gunners over the last couple of seasons, Mikel Arteta’s side needs to make room for a new striker.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Viktor Gyokeres, the Swedish striker in recent days. To sign someone like the Sporting CP marksman, room needs to be made in the squad and Nketiah might be the sacrificial lamb.

Olympique Marseille, a team managed by ex-Brighton coach Roberto de Zerbi wants to sign Nketiah from Arsenal. As per Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Ligue 1 club has already reached an agreement on personal terms with the player.

The journalist does add though that despite the French club reaching an agreement with the player, a deal between the two clubs is ‘not close’ yet. Talks are set to continue to reach a consensus.

The 25-year-old English striker is not a first-choice starter for Mikel Arteta due to the presence of Gabriel Jesus. Moving to OM will give the player the chance to thrive under a manager who is known to play an attacking brand of football.

Having already signed ex-Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and controversial English forward Mason Greenwood, the Ligue 1 club are giving De Zerbi the tools he requires and Nketiah could be the next on the list.

The £100k-per-week Arsenal striker has a natural instinct of knowing where the back of the net is. This will hold him in good stead wherever he goes as he is more likely than not to score a ton of goals.

At Arsenal, the competition for places is immense. Moving away from the Premier League to a less demanding atmosphere could bring the best out of Nketiah. Only time will tell if the two clubs can agree on a fee for this transfer.
