4 players that could leave Manchester United this January

Date:

These are treacherous times for Manchester United. The ex-great club currently sits 5th in the league a staggering 27 points behind league leaders Liverpool. That gap is a sign of the times and a barometer of how far away the Red Devils are from their former glories. As the January window rolls through, United are more than likely to see several exits.

Here are 4 players that could leave United this month.

Diogo Dalot

Under Jose Mourinho, things looked to be on the up for Diogo Dalot. However, since the departure of the 56-year-old, Dalot has once again been left in the dark. When given the opportunity he has not delivered and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has finally had enough.

With the emergence of a young Brandon Williams, United are starting to see a revival in their full-back department, leaving no space for Dalot. United are looking to overhaul all the deadwood at the club in January, before making radical changes in the summer, unfortunately, the 20-year-old will be a casualty of this process.

Ashley Young

Despite being one of the more experienced players in the squad, Ashley Young’s time at Old Trafford is up. His performances have become increasingly below par, often being cited as the weakest link on the pitch. The 34-year-old has been found wanting in his defensive positioning and going the other way, his crossing has been poor.

There’s no longer a space for Young in the team and if United are serious about challenging for titles and the top 4, Young is not of the desired quality to be in the 25-man squad either. As the overhaul continues, Young could be sold for close to nothing just so United are able to tick him off their long list of departures.

Nemanja Matic

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made it clear that the 31-year-old is not a part of his plans at Old Trafford. Matic only ever plays for the club when both Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba are injured. He is way down the pecking order and a player of his calibre shouldn’t be limited to such small playing time.

The Serbian’s current contract runs out in the summer, meaning he is now free to negotiate with clubs as a free agent. If United want to command a fee for the midfielder, they must sell him this month, or he’ll go for nothing in the summer.

Paul Pogba

It’s become a matter of when not if the Frenchman will leave Manchester United. He has made it abundantly clear that he sees his future elsewhere and the fans have seemingly also accepted that fate.

Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona are all monitoring his situation, with Mino Raiola openly criticising Manchester United’s lack of ambition. If Pogba doesn’t leave this window he will certainly leave in the summer as the club has had enough of all the extra baggage that has come with his situation.
