England Defender Set to Sign Four-Year Deal with Man United

Date:

Phil Jones is set to sign a new four-year contract with Manchester United this week.

According to Daily Mail, the 23-year-old robust central defender, who can also play at right-back and in midfield, has agreed a fresh terms with the Red Devils and will earn around £80,000 per week under new deal.

In April this year, the Red Devils had also signed a similar deal with Jones’ follow-central defender Chris Smalling.

Jones’ future at Old Trafford remained in the air in recent weeks amid United’s chase of several top defenders including Valencia’s Nicolas Otamendi and Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels.

However, the British outlet understands that England international is set to commit his future with the club.

Joes had joined United from Blackburn Rovers for £16million in 2011 and his current contract at Old Trafford is due to expire at the end of next season.

The defender struggled with injuries most of last season and managed 24 appearances in all competitions, scoring no goals.

Joes has earned 17 England caps since making his full debut in October 2011. He was also part of country’s 2014 FIFA World Cup squad.

Meanwhile, Louis van Gaal is determined to bring in a world-class midfielder during the summer transfer window and Jonny Evans will most probably make way if such move takes place.

In recent days, Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has emerged as a surprise target for United.

Red Devils are reportedly preparing to launch £21.4million-plus-David De Gea offer to La Liga giants for 29-year-old Spain international, who has two years left on his current deal at Santiago Bernabéu.
