Five Possible Left-Back Options Liverpool Should Consider to Compete With Alberto Moreno

Jurgen Klopp has seemingly decided to trim his Liverpool squad before next season kicks off in August, recently selling the Australian Brad Smith to Bournemouth for £6 million, leaving Alberto Moreno as the only natural left-back in a team.

The German manager also allowed Jon Flanagan to join Burnley on a season-long loan, and so it appears obvious he will need to bring a new face to compete with the Spaniard who was inconsistent last year and certainly appears a weak-link for the Reds.

Here are five possible contenders to be Liverpool’s new left-back.

2Ricardo Rodriguez – Vfl Wolfsburg

One of the most-wanted left-backs in Europe, Rodriguez is at the top of his game right now despite being a young player at the age of 23. He has become a key player at Wolfsburg since joining from Zurich in 2012 and is arguably the best player on this list.

Rodriguez has represented Switzerland on 41 occasions but didn’t have a particularly good season last year, scoring only two goals and recording three assists in 24 Bundesliga games.

However, the player is solid at the back and very dangerous in going forward, especially from direct set-pieces, one of the things Liverpool’s have missed since the days of Riise and Aurelio (position wise).

He could be a costly acquisition, as his valuation is around £22 million. However, Rodriguez would instantly jump into the starting eleven.
