Moises Caicedo Will Perfectly Fit in Chelsea Lineup

Date:

Moises Caicedo has been the most sought-after midfielder in the Premier League, it can be argued. During the winter transfer window, Arsenal had two bids rejected for him and even Roberto De Zerbi, manager of The Seagulls says he expects him to be sold this summer.

After Arsenal have all but completed the signing of West Ham captain Declan Rice, Caicedo appears to be joining one of Manchester United or Chelsea. But with The Red Devils completing the signing of Blues midfielder Mason Mount, Chelsea will need a replacement.

This fact, in theory, should put the West London side in pole position to sign him. As much as Man United would want to sign him, they would need to sell players first, to ensure they comply with FFP.

I Sports Courant writer Ayyaz Malik, believe it’s a matter of when and not if Chelsea sign Caicedo, offers his thoughts on how Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea will line up with the Ecuadorian in the side.

Moises Caicedo, who could have been a Manchester United player a couple of years ago, if they followed up their interest when he was available for £5 million, is a box-to-box midfield player.

Call him what you want. A destroyer, a ball winner, in the English game there are not many who possess the skills that Caicedo does, which could explain why Chelsea want him.

With the departures of N’Golo Kante and Matteo Kovacic, the need for midfield reinforcements is urgent. So with the signing of Moises Caicedo, arguably he’s a bit of both.

The common misconception is that Kante was a defensive midfielder, but observers could say he was much more than that. N’Golo Kante was the heartbeat of the side, he was very good in winning the ball back and in driving the team forward.

I expect something similar from Caicedo. In terms of how he will fit into this current Chelsea side, players like the Ecuadorian could blossom. With Kepa in goal, we see Tiago Silva and Benoît Badiashile in front of him at centre-back with Ben Chillwell at left-back and Reece James at right-back.

In midfield, I expect Pochettino’s side to be a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 or a 4-5-1. Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo shielding the back four is the main tactic I expect Chelsea’s Argentine coach to mainly use.

This would give the licence to Connor Gallagher to be higher up the pitch, which is what the former Crystal Palace loanee needs. When Gallagher was on loan at Selhurst Park he excelled for large parts of that loan spell, I think for this reason, he was played further forward.

New signing Christopher N’Kunku should be played down the middle with Christian Pullisic played as a wide forward on one side and Raheem Sterling on the other. England international Sterling has struggled in West London, but one thing is for certain, he’s a good player, his stats for Man City prove this.

So, that’s my thoughts on how Caicedo should be used. The Ecuador man is interchangeable so could play in other positions and switch position too. Arguably this is the reason why he’s so sought after. That’s my thoughts on where Chelsea should play Caicedo if they do indeed sign the 21-year-old, but do you agree with my suggestion?

Do let me know yours in the comments.
