Premier League Flop Poised To Join Champions

Date:

Premier League champions Chelsea are on the verge of striking a deal with French club Monaco to sign Radamel Falcao on a season-long loan contract, Sports Courant reported.

Both the clubs have reportedly agreed on terms regarding Colombian’s transfer to Stamford Bridge for next season after two weeks of negotiations. As per agreed terms, the striker will be on a weekly wage significantly lower than his existing remuneration of £265,000 per week.

If the deal actually gets through, it would represent an unprecedented opportunity for the former Porto and Atletico Madrid star to revitalize his career stained by a dismal season on loan at Manchester United.

The Colombia International miserably failed to live up to expectations and could beat the rival goalkeepers on just four occasions during the season-long campaign.

United subsequently opted not to exercise their option of signing the Colombian on a permanent contract, but the 29-year-old insists that his goal-scoring abilities are still intact.

The Arrival of Falcao at Stamford Bridge could also mark the departure of Loïc Remy, who had fallen down the pecking order behind Costa and Didier Drogba last season.

The Frenchman has been on the radar of several top-flight clubs including Blue’s London rivals Crystal Palace and West Ham United.

Palace are believed to be the favorites to land Remy, for whom first-team opportunities were hard to come by at Chelsea since his arrival from Queens Park Rangers last summer.

The French club are in hurry to offload their highest paid player (Falcao) to avoid the Financial Fair Play restrictions, and a move to Chelsea or any other club, either on loan or permanent will take the striker off their wage list.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and the Colombian international share the same agent, Jorge Mendes. The Premier League champions are yet to complete their first summer signing.
