Real Madrid Lodge Final Bid for Man United’s David de Gea

Date:

Real Madrid have submitted their final bid for Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, while handing an ultimatum to the English club.

According to Spanish outlet ABC, the final bid is understood to be in the region of €25 million, which could rise to £30m with several appearance and performance-related add-ons.

The Spanish giants have asked the Old Trafford club to make a final decision about the future of former Atletico Madrid star before the transfer window closes on September 1.

United’s are reportedly holding out a €35m straight-up fee for their ace shot-stopper but are expected to pay serious heed to Madrid’s final offer, given the fact that he has just one year left on his contract and will be available on a free transfer next summer.

Amid the transfer speculation, De Gea was left out of United’s squad that registered 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in their opening game of Premier League 2015-16 at Old Trafford on Saturday and replaced by new signing Sergio Romero.

After the match, when asked whether De Gea can start again for United, club’s manager Louis Van Gaal said:

“If he is still here on 1 September we will look again, but he cannot play before that because as a goalkeeper you need the highest concentration, and it is difficult when you are in a position like David,” said the Dutchman.

“We saw in pre-season his focus was not quite there and we made the decision on Wednesday not to play him,” he added.

United were keen to sign Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera to replace De Gea, however, their £25m bid for Uruguay international was reportedly turned down by Turkish club on Monday.

However, they are likely to continue their efforts to sign Ajax and Netherlands stopper Jasper Cillessen.
