Manchester City currently sit atop the Premier League table, unbeaten and are playing the most attractive football in all of Europe. However, there is no perfect team in football as tiny adjustments can always be made. The January transfer window is just around the corner, and it’s the best time to strengthen City’s title challenge.
Here are three players Manchester City should sign in January.
2Aymeric Laporte
Manchester City may be firing on all cylinders in the attack, but in defence, they’re not as competent. Both John Stones and Nicolás Otamendi have glaringly obvious defensive flaws. John Stones takes too long on the ball, while Nicolás Otamendi’s positioning has often left his team exposed on the counter. If Pep wants to 100% secure the Premier League title, he must address this defensive naivety.
Aymeric Laporte is one of the finest young talents in world football. At the age of 23, Laporte bears much responsibility on his shoulders, in return he’s shown great leadership qualities. On the pitch, he excels in 1v1 defending, man-marking and he’s very adept at playing out from the back. He has all the traits to thrive in a Manchester City team that refuses to produce long balls.

So the net outlay is around £160m by my reckoning and three consecutive years of profit for the club and no debt, evidenced by the accounts.
Of course you can ignore facts when they don’t match your agenda can’t you!

Thebottom 46players on the list of 17 were not brought in for the City 1st team squad, they are development players costing a totalof £25m, half of which was for the impressive young Brazilian DMF Douglas Luiz, currently at Girona in La Liga.
Yes I missed out Stones and Nolito, the latter who came and went in a season re-couping the cost.
Why do I doubt your motives? Well for a start any wannabe journo who writes an article about City that commences with money, and is all about spending more money is just climbing on a tired old band wagon, the “you can’t buy success” band wagon that is currently turning into the “you have bought success” band wagon.
And yes, I have spotted that you chose to use Euro’s for your headline figure. For information we use the £sterling.
To update the erronious numbers in my earlier post, the net figure (cost of 11 incoming first team players minus the receipts for outgoing players) comes to circa £210m (sterling) over two seasons. Value of the 9 players remaining at the club at current rates? Probably around double that! I fully realise that the net figure wasn’t the point of your article, but the net figure is the honest but less attention grabbing truth of Pep’s achievement in transforming an ageing, fading squad into one of the best and most attactive footballing club sides in the world .
The fact that this has been done within a culture of sustainable, profitable business management should be the story – but not the story you are pushing.
You clearly know little about Pep Guardiola a man who you only turn down once. He will not return for Laporte, an excellent player who procrastinated to the last minute before turning him down in the first of Pep’s transfer windows. He may return for Sanchez a player who enthusiastically said yes but fell foul of the intemperate Arsene Wenger and his incompetent side kicks who agreed the transfer and then backed out when they discovered that the replacement they wanted didn’t actually want to go to Arsenal. What a shame they didn’t think to ask that question before!

Sorry that my initial maths were wrong, but the fact is, Pep Guardiola has spent over £400million since arriving. We’re not talking about net spend, we’re looking at what’s been spent. Opinions and narratives can be argued, but the figures don’t lie.
Given your comments with regards to Stones and Otamendi, it’s hard to take any of the article even seriously. Only compounded by naming a defender and an attacker that we’ve been in for both previously. Poor.
So you’re confident Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones are good enough to be a title-winning defence?
