Following Leicester City’s rise to the pinnacle of the Premier League in the first half of the season, many have begun to tout the Foxes as strong contenders for the title and with good reason, as their recent performances and Premier League history suggests.

The Premier League title has been won by the team on top of the League by Christmas a staggering 11 times, and with the way Leicester’s going this season might be the 12th time a team’s won it from being top at Christmas unless the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal think otherwise.

But with all that said let’s take a look at the 11 times when winter champions went on to win the tittle.

Manchester City

Manchester City won the English first division title for the third time in history in the 2011-12 season by beating Queens Park Rangers 3–2 on the final day of the campaign, thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko, coming back from being 2–1 down with two stoppage-time goals just before the final whistle.

The title triumph was also quite historical as it was the first Premier League title decided on goal difference. City’s game-winning goal against QPR came 15 seconds after local rivals Manchester United defeated Sunderland 1–0, so it was quite a shocker for the United faithful, but Roberto Mancini and the City fans enjoyed the spectacular moment.
