3 Players Liverpool Can Sign In the January Transfer Window

Date:

Liverpool is nearing the second half of the season with an eight point lead above fierce rivals Manchester City and surprise challengers Leicester City. The possibility of Liverpool seeing red ribbons on the Premier League title come May 17 is very high with the way the season is panning out.

But, Liverpool’s stunning run so far has come with slight hiccups defensively. The defensive unit this season has been far from the one that recorded 22 clean sheets last season and that could be due to Joel Matip’s spell on the sidelines due to a knee injury he picked up a couple of weeks back.

Seeing as the team is still in contention for 5 trophies, Liverpool could look to strengthen their squad in this upcoming transfer window to help increase the squad depth and stand a better chance in all competitions.

Here are some options to help them in their bid to win their first Premier League title…

JADON SANCHO, WINGER (BORUSSIA DORTMUND)

Jadon Sancho

Liverpool has world-class attacking options already in Sadio Mane and Mohammed Salah but, injuries could strike at any time and the team always finds themselves struggling without both players.

Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi are decent attackers but they can’t provide the flair and confidence Jadon Sancho brings when he’s on the pitch.

Jadon Sancho is also a trickster who excels in one-on-one situations, a quality Jurgen Klopp always looks out for

With Liverpool pushing for a Premier League title, Sancho would be a massive addition both on and off the pitch.

YOUCEF ATAL, FULLBACK (NICE)

Liverpool’s fullbacks are arguably the best pairing in world football at the moment.

They provide defensive stability and most importantly they are the creative spark of the team.

As we’ve seen in almost every Liverpool game, the midfield is there for pressing the opposition and winning the ball back whilst the onus is on Liverpool’s full-backs to create goalscoring opportunities.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson have been directly involved in three goals and 11 assists this season and Liverpool could be in a lot of trouble if either of them were to ever pick up injuries anytime soon.

But that’s where Youcef Atal could step in, the 23-year-old attacking fullback has already registered a goal and 2 assists this season in the Ligue 1, he is always found causing trouble for the opponents by raiding the right side of the pitch constantly.

That makes even more sense when you consider the fact that he completed 96 take-ons in the Ligue 1 last season, more than any other defender. His talent and potential is surely something Liverpool should look into.

RUBEN NEVES, MIDFIELDER (WOLVES)

With Fabinho facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to an ankle injury he picked up against Napoli last month, Portuguese midfield general Neves could be sought after in the January transfer window.

He has had wonderful performances for Wolves since he signed in 2017, he is described as a defensive midfielder who is not afraid to go forward and launch attacking moves, showing great maturity combined with an accurate passing skill, great vision and an astute sense of positioning.

Signing Neves in January gives Liverpool some short-term cover in midfield, as well as a long-term option.

When Fabinho returns, Neves will find it tough to replace the Brazilian in the line-up as a regular. But having that depth would come a long way later if not sooner.
