Another Match, Another Defeat for Chelsea

Date:

Chelsea’s miseries went from bad to worse after the Blues lost another match, this time at home 1-3 to Liverpool.

After an early goal from a Ramires header, the defending Premier League Champions went on to concede three more to lose and pile more pressure on the already struggling Jose Mourinho.

Philippe Coutinhofirst scored the equalizer and then scored his second as Liverpool came from behind to defeat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge. Benteke came on as a second half substitute to score the third goal and confirm Jürgen Klopp’s first Premier League victory. The result now leaves Mourinho’s Chelsea with a sixth Premier League loss of the campaign.

Ramires, the Brazilian who recently signed an extended four-year deal this week, helped Chelsea to a dream start after he gave them the lead with just four minutes on the clock. Diego Costa’s tricky back pass helped Cesar Azpilicuetato come up with an excellent pin-point cross and the Brazilianmidfielder headed a powerful shot into the bottom corner past Simon Mignolet.

Liverpool needed time to find their feet but they responded well and soon enough in the form of Nathaniel Clyne who tested Asmir Begovic with a shot from 18 yards but the Goalkeeper was not troubled. Then he stopped another Liverpool effort at goal, this time, a close range effort from Adam Lallana. Liverpool had started to dominate the possession by now but Chelsea showed improved resilience and were happy to stay back.

However, all their good works were undone by a moment of sheer brilliance by Coutinho who curled a brilliant left footed shot beyond Begovic into the far left corner. The goal was a little controversial as it was scored after the third minute of added time which was, however, only two minutes.

The Early second half was dull and chances were scarce before Jose Mourinho substituted Kenedy for an underperforming Hazard. The young Brazilian made an immediate impact as he got past Clyne to shoot a whisker just wide of the near post.

The match turned into a midfield battle as both teams were fortunate to escape being reduced to ten men. Costa’s flick of boot onto Skrtel was missed by referee Mark Clattenburg and moments later, he chose not to give Lucas Leiva a second yellow card for a blatant foul on Ramires.

In the middle a moment of magic came from Oscar as the Brazilian nearly caught Mignolet from halfway but the Goalkeeper tipped the ball just over the bar. The save was pivotal as Liverpool got the lead moments after.

Coutinho picked up a loose ball on the edge of the Chelsea penalty area and his shot took a deflection from Terry to beat Begovic for the second time in the match.

Alberto Moreno’s surge a few minutes later nearly made it three but Begovic denied him at the near post. Jordon Ibe’s deflected effort a few moments later from the right left the goalkeeper scrambling across goal.

Liverpool, however, did seal the win in the end after substitute Bentekeslotted home a composed finish to beat Begovic into the bottom corner in the 83rd minute to pile further misery on Mourinho.

The Chelsea faithful showed their support for Mourinho even after the game, but his future at the club looks even more uncertain now.
