Robert Lewandowski’s Bayern Munich career could be coming to an end as the Pole has made it abundantly clear that he’s looking to leave the club. Of course, many would look at his career and think there’s not much to complain about. The prolific centre-forward has won the Bundesliga four times with Bayern Munich alongside three domestic trophies.

Despite all his success, the 29-year-old wants to leave Germany for a new challenge. That’s where Chelsea step in, apart from Real Madrid, the Blues are the only financially viable option for the striker.

So, from the money side it’s possible, but in terms of playing style and tactics, would the 29-year-old be suited to Stamford Bridge?

Here’s how Robert Lewandowski would fit in at Chelsea.

First of all, for those who may be doubting Lewandowksi’s ability, let’s quickly delve into his stats. In 193 appearances for the Bavarians, the 29-year-old has scored a stunning 150 goals, finishing top scorer in the Bundesliga three times. He is, without doubt, one of the best strikers on the planet and could quite possibly walk into any starting XI in the world.

The 29-year-old may not be the quickest, but he excels in other areas. Lewandowski is strong, sturdy, has a great aerial reach and exceptional ball control. That’s why he’s perfect as the focal point of an attack because he can hold up play and bring others into the game.

It’s that ability to be physically strong enough to hold up play against centre-backs that will make him perfect for the Premier League. The English Premier League is renowned for its physicality and electric pace.

What system suits him?

Why Robert Lewandowski is such a useful asset is because of his versatility and ability to adjust to any system. He can play as the sole figure or in a front two as the one dropping deep, this means he’d be perfect in either of Chelsea’s 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 formations that Antonio Conte loves to play.

If Chelsea ever needed a plan B and wanted to adopt a more direct approach, Lewandowski would present himself as a target man. In 30 Bundesliga appearances, the forward won an average of 1.8 duels per game, at Chelsea that would equate to plenty of knockdowns for Eden Hazard and Willian to run onto.

Who would make way?

It’s a well-known secret that Antonio Conte isn’t very fond of Michi Batshuayi. Regardless of how hard he tries or plays, the Italian just doesn’t value his contribution. So, that just leaves Álvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud as striking options.

The former started off as Conte’s first choice but in the latter part of the season, it was Giroud who became his main man. If Robert Lewandowski were to make a blockbuster move to Stamford Bridge, it’s likely that Morata would then only be used in one of the wide positions.

The signing of Robert Lewandowski would be a significant statement from the Blues as they look to not only get back into the Champions League but win the Premier League.
